![]() If I can't find it with Picasa, THEN I open Portfolio (. This usually retrieves it 90% of the time. When I'm searching for an image, I first use Picasa. I use it very effectively in conjunction with PhotoMechanic (for image ingestion), PS and LR for heavy or light editing, and Portfolio by Extensis for serious image retrieval / searches. The plugins are Viveza, Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, DFine, HDR Efex, Perspective Efex, Sharpener, and Silver Efex. No, it doesn't have the ability to do complex Boolean searches that some of the "real" DAM programs offer, but (a) often, that isn't necessary, (b) it doesn't hog system resources like some of the more advanced DAM programs, (c) is fast, (d) can handle huge (ie, hundreds of thousands of images) without a hiccup, and (e), the program almost never crashes or crashes your system (like some of the more advanced DAM programs). Nik Collection is a pack of 8 plugins designed for photographers that cover everything from sharpening and noise reduction to changing perspective and editing different types of photos. ![]() ![]() No one in their right mind would ever claim it could take the place or LR of PS, but I would add that in addition to the uses Lex cited, Picasa is a rock-solid, extremely useful image retrieval program.
